Sally Hanson Lace Review

Hello loves!

This post will be strictly about the Sally Hanson Nail effects. The first set I purchased was from Walmart and was the leopard print design. I ABSOLUTELY loved the leopard design and how long it stayed on my nails but it just wasn't the same for the lace design. As much as I loved the lace look, it also gave me problems...

Pros:
  • Fast nail art technique
As you probably already know the lace look is hard to pull off unless you have the time, energy, and patience...and since I do not this nail effects comes in handy when I'm looking for a quick nail design
  • Simple Process
Seriously these are as simple as they come! First you find the best sticker to fit each nail, and all you do is peel them off and stick onto your nails. The whole process takes less than 10 minutes...which is much faster than painting nails with nail polish.

Cons:
  • Chips easily
Weird how the leopard nail effects didn't chip as much as these but they did. Boo. It didn't even last me 4 days without it chipping...keep in mind this is with a top coat overlay.
  • Cost
As much as I love the look, I personally can't stand that these nail effects are $10 a set. This is why the only time I purchase these are when they're on SALE! I did that recently when Walgreens had a special for each set for $5...win.
  • Resembles "shatter" look
This con can actually be a pro depending on you but for me it resembles the OPI shatter look too much from far away. I got so many "is that shatter on your nails?" questions it got annoying.

Shatter for a Cause

Hi Dolls !

Okay...So since getting the Pink Shatter I've been so excited to test out and finally got the chance the other night! I was sad that the pink shatter didn't look good over darker nail polish but I'm not gonna complain because I really liked how this pink and white look turned out. Keep reading if you wanna see how I created this look...

Products Used:

OPI Nail Lacquer
in Pink Shatter
Nailene White
Nail Polish
California Glitter
Nail Polish

*Remember that you can use any similar products already in your collection to create this look*

Steps to create this look:

1. Apply your usual base coat
2. Apply one to two coats of white nail polish --- apply enough to give full coverage
3. Apply a light coat of glittered nail polish --- I used a light silver and pink glitter since we are using pink shatter! :)
4. Paint over your nails a heavy coat of pink shatter for a thick and large shatter effect...or if you're looking to create a thin shatter effect use a light coat of shatter!

Step 2!
Step 3!

Nail Polish Wheels

Hello!

Whenever I heard of these nail polish color wheels I always thought about how stupid they are and how unnecessary they seem to be.

Although I've come to see that using them would be helpful with organizing my Nail polish colors. Plus I can always practice nail designs with these bad boys!

FYI: You know you have too much nail polish when you consider buying these.

4. Homemade French Tips

Hey girls!

In a past life...or in high school...I ALWAYS painted my nails with the usual french tips. I admit I though it was cute at a time when my nails were all long, not shaped, and not cute at all!

I usually did it myself cause I hated having others do my nails...which meant it was done in the cheapest yet simplest way possible...Ahhh just my style. So for this blog post I'm gonna explain how to get this look without spending too much!

Products I used:

Scotch Tape
Fimo Cane
White Nail Polish

*Remember there are alternatives to each product I used. Instead of tape you can use curved french tip nail stickers. For the nail polish you can use any brand of white nail polish. And for the  fimo cane you can use basic nail stickers to gain the flower look for your nail design.*

Steps:
1. Do NOT apply a base coat --- The tape will ruin the base coat
2. Cut and apply a piece of tape across the tips of your nails...press tape down firmly
3. Apply one to two coats of white nail polish onto your tips and not over any other part of the nail
4. Let nails dry completely
5. When totally dry peel the tape off of each nail slowly and at a low angle...a low angle helps the nail polish to not stretch just in case the polish is still wet
6. Apply a layer of top coat to each nail
7. If using fimo canes, cut a very thin slice off the cane and apply to selected nail by using your top coat of nail polish as a glue. If using a sticker, apply normally to any nail and press firmly
8. Apply a final layer of top coat for shine and seal!

And there you go! You've got a easy french tip manicure with a sassy flower to add color to any girls nails!

Matte Nail Polish...

OMG. I need to try this kind of nail polish.

This is called matte nail polish that has been around for sometime now but I guess I've been living under a rock. The finished look gives a much softer and non-shiny look. Hopefully I can find it at my usual OPI shopping place.

Katy Perry Collection...

From L to R: 'Last Friday Night', 'Not Like The Movies',
'The One That Got Away', 'Teenage Dream',
and Black Shatter
I can't believe I caved and brought the entire line of Katy Perry nail polishes from OPI...and yes these are the large bottles.

May I just say that the ONLY reason why I originally brought these polishes were because I adore Katy Perry. Although I've found that some of the polishes are beyond amazing while others lack my enthusiasm.

Polishes:

  • Last Friday Night
At first I hated the clearness of this blue-sparkly polish and its lacking in the cute department. Although I've grown to see that this polish makes a great base color before applying shatter OR a great glitter for over any nail polish...but not worth using alone.

  • Not Like The Movies
This gray polish is cute yet colorful. It's not a usual nail polish...it has various colors of gray, green, purple-ish effect to it. Which I like. Although this is what I call a "finger nails only" nail polish because it only matches me when I wear this polish on my finger nails and not toes nails.

  • The One That Got Away
Oh yes...this polish is amazing but don't let the color fool you. This polish is actually a combo of red and pink with lots of sparkle. For me, I've noticed that this combo makes a excellent toe nail polish...but not a finger nail polish for me. It clashes too easily with my pale hands. Which is one of the main reasons why I never wear red nail polish on my fingers.

  • Teenage Dream
Have you any good reviews on this polish? Well they are quite accurate...this polish is unbelievably cute and looks amazing under black shatter. One coat gives a pretty light sparkle that looks elegant and classy but two coats makes a statement! The only con is that it's a pain in the butt to get off of nails with nail polish remover. Just remember the motto "pain is beauty".

  • Black Shatter
This is the greatest polish idea ever invented. The black shatter is hands down the best shatter from OPI I've ever used. I personally tried the gray, blue, red, white, and turquoise shatter but none of those compare to the black. End of story.

Thinner

This is what I call a nail polish lifesaver.

I've used nail polish remover and other cheap nail polish thinners but OPI has the best thinner HANDS DOWN.

Although the price is just as much as a bottle of OPI nail polish its worth it considering the nail polishes this thinner has saved me. I still have tons of older nail polish that I like to use for decorating my nails but some have unfortunately turned dry. However this product helps to make all my older nail polishes look like new!

That's a plus in my book.

:)

3. Pink and Sparkly

Hi dolls!

Here is the promised blog post about my "pink and sparkly" look that I created. Let me explain how this all started. I originally saw a picture of a similar look on Instagram and HAD to re-create the look with my own spin. The original look had pink tips with gradient glitter in the middle of the nail...although I decided to to a full pink coat with gradient tips!

Products used:

OPI in 'Spark De Triomphe'
From the Serena Williams OPI
Collection
Sponge to create
gradient look
L.A. Girls in 'Fuchsia'
From Forever 21

*Remember you can use whatever nail polish you have to create this look, just make sure to have a small sponge, one shade of color and one glitter nail polish!*

Steps:
1. Apply Base Coat
2. Apply one to two coats of chosen color of nail polish
3. Wait until COMPLETELY DRY
4. Paint sponge with glitter nail polish and dab onto tips of nails to create a glittery tip
5. apply glitter tips to all nails and let dry
6. When tips are dry, dab light amount of glitter to area ABOVE tips...this is to create gradient look!
7. Apply a top coat for shine and stay power

And the finished product is a great glitter and pink look that's easy and an attention getter!

I want it bad...

Hi loves!

I know I said that my next blog post would be of my "pink and sparkle" design. However I recently seen magnetic nail polish reviews on Youtube and decided that I had to post a pic of the ONLY one I can find through Sephora.

Hopefully I can get my hands on some of this the next time I go into the city! I can't even fathom spending $16 on NAIL POLISH but it's so cool!

*fingers crossed that a Hawaii Sephora has this!*

:)

2. "Meowwww"

Aloha dolls!

This blog post is gonna be about my current/favorite nail polish design I've come across. This nail design involved the following products:

  • Konad nail plate in number 57
  • Black Konad nail polish
  • Konad stamp and excess remover
  • Brown/gold nail polish (I used NYX in antique from longs for $2!)

 Steps:
  1. Paint on a Base nail polish
  2. Paint on one to two coats of Brown/gold nail polish
  3. Use the Konad plate to apply each nail with a leopard design
  4. Apply a top coat to ensure longer lasting nail design and shine

Pros to Konad:
  • Faster way to design nails versus free handing
I'm pretty darn good at free handing nail designs of flowers, zebra lines, and feathers. Although I CAN'T do a great looking leopard design without it looking whack. So Konad is a cool way to get fast nail effects.

  • VERY similar effects to Sally Hanson Nail Effect stickers
OMGHHKP <-----Do you know this phrase? :) Anywhoo yes I'm shocked how similar my nails looked compared to the Sally Hanson nail effects. I personally rather spend my money on these items to make this design then spend $9.99 on Sally nail effects that last me only a week.

Cons to Konad:
  • Costly to buy products:
You not only have to buy the plate with the design you like, you must also buy the nail stamp, excess remover scraper, and the Konad SPECIAL nail polish. Which is unfortunately necessary because it hardens to create a amazing finish/look.

Recommendation:
    • Buy products in a set or on sale:
Konad sells sets for $10 or more that include a nail plate, stamp, excess polish remover, and a small Konad special nail polish. Although another option is buying Konad while on sale. Recently Longs Drugs featured their Konad products for 50% off. Deals like this are the best way to get great deals on hella expensive items like these.

  • Tedious process
Ugh. My least favorite part of this nail art was that fact that I had to paint the special nail polish onto the plate, wipe off excess, stamp plate, then stamp design onto nail, and lastly remove any nail polish on the above items with nail polish remover. Imagine doing this 10 or so times. It can get easily annoying and bothersome after the fourth time.

Recommendation:
    • Have patience or do designs on only a few nails

1. "Yellow Princess"

Aloha all!

If you can't already tell I'm excited to post a blog already. So I decided to let my first "official" blog post to be about a recent nail design I had on my nails. This lovely nail design was inspired by Youtube Guru PrincessAnnie218 and her BEAUTIFUL canary yellow spiked nails. Although I'm lacking in the nail length department, I still had to give it a go, and I really liked the turnout of it.

My choice in yellow nail polish to create this look came from a recent purchase from 'Ross Dress for Less' in Honolulu and a sparkly Wet N' Wild Nail polish from Walgreens.

Yes ladies and gents...That's Nerds flavored nail polish that does smell like lemons! It's amazeballs and gave me the perfect lemon yellow I was looking for to pull off this look. I have to say that this purchases was well worth the less than $5 price tag for BOTH nail polishes. Gotta love finding deals in Hawaii Nei.

Goodnight (:
